Dori Tunstall

Lecture

In a time of significant momentum and expanding opportunity, her book “Decolonizing Design: A Cultural Justice Guidebook” offers points of entry for radically shifting the way we think about, practice, and teach design. Dr. Tunstall holds a Ph.D. and MA in Anthropology from Stanford University and a BA in Anthropology from Bryn Mawr College. Her work has been featured in Print magazine, Fast Company, AIGA’s Eye on Design, and Design Observer, among other platforms. She was awarded the Sir Misha Black Medal in 2022.

Graphic & Multimedia Design invites you to spend an afternoon with artist and designer Dewey Saunders as he discusses his work, his path to a creative career, shares his creative process, and answers your questions. This event is part lecture and part collage workshop, where you are invited to engage in the creative dialogue using paper, glue, and scissors. Dewey’s work can be found on the covers of your favorite Anderson. Paak albums and in the pages of Vanity Fair Magazine. His client list includes Cookies, Flying Embers, Ray-Ban, and many more. His aesthetic returns the warmth of analog ephemera and touchable design to our internet-saturated world.
Dave Moon

Dave Moon is the head of the Communication Design area and an art and design professor at California State University, Northridge, and a published author. His book Power-Up YOU: A Personal Branding Handbook for Artists, Creatives, and Designers was developed to serve students seeking jobs upon graduation. Dave founded or co-founded a number of student-based creative enterprises, including IntersectLA, a design, marketing, and strategy agency. His career is always focused on student learning and creating innovative spaces that encourage collaborative learning via a “learn-by-doing” model.

Motion Graphic Designer – Misstran Inc. Tran was awarded the Gates Millennium Scholarship and earned her graduate degree at Grand Valley State University. Since 2007, she has designed for such clients as Toyota, Nike, ESPN, Hyundai, Sony, and Apple. Her first short documentary film, 40 Years Young, was featured in the 2014 Asian American International Film Festival NYC. She was also a participant in the Adventure Filmmaker’s Workshop at the Banff Mountain Film Festival that same year. In 2018, Tran was highlighted on Art of the Title’s 10 Women of Title Design. Her film credits include: The Lego Movie for Alma Mater as well as Pacific Rim and for TV series Stranger Things for Imaginary Forces.
Schessa Garbutt

Designer, writer, near-futurist. Amongst other professional and creative activities, Schessa is the founder and creative force behind Firebrand. Prior to founding Firebrand, she led design at UNUM and worked at various creative agencies. While her core creative talents lie in brand identity design, she is also an avid writer, and speaker, who realizes that when we each commit ourselves to making our corner of the world more just and more green, we trend toward a brighter future. 
Silas Munro

Designer. Artist. Author. Educator. Munro's design work and writings have been published in many forms at home and abroad. He’s the founder of poly-mode, a design practice which helps organizations embrace cultural diversity and increase community involvement. He has been a critic and lecturer at many internationally ranked art and design programs including CalArts, Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), NC State, RISD, and the Yale School of Art. Munro serves as Assistant Professor in Communication Arts and MFA in Graphic Design at Otis College of Art and Design, and Advisor and Chair Emeritus in the MFA Program in Graphic Design at Vermont College of Fine Arts. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).

FILMMAKER, PRODUCER & ENTREPRENEUR. Antonio, began his career in the field of interactive and graphic design, focusing on building brands and digital content in the tech and food sector. In the past decade, he has founded creative agencies, led the art and technical direction of tech startups, produced and directed the Emmy-winning TV show, The Migrant Kitchen on KCET, and is currently the founder and CEO of Life & Thyme, a culinary publication and production agency. Based out of Los Angeles, Antonio is focused on creating meaningful stories through filmmaking, editorial content and photography.
